Domestic Electrical Installation (Practices and Procedures) including Level 3 Part ‘P’.

This course has been developed for those who wish to carry out electrical installation work in dwellings (house wiring), to ‘National Occupational Standards’.

The course is aimed at those candidates who wish to have a basic knowledge and understanding of Domestic Electrical Installation Practices and Procedures, such as DIYers, Tradesmen, such as Plumbers/Gas Engineers, Kitchen/Bathroom Fitters, General Builders, etc.  who carry out electrical installation work as part of their main activity, and also those who may have been made redundant (ReAct funding), and wish to start their own business or seek employment in the electrical installation industry. Ideal for those who are new to electrical installation work.

The course content is based on nine individual units that are assessed by a mix of internal practical and theoretical assessments to the National Occupational Standard, All knowledge assessments are by multiple-choice questioning . **Included also during the course is the EAL Level 3 Qualification Part ‘P, Electrical Safety in Dwellings (Applicable Building Regulations). Additionally, we cover aspects of electrical testing Glasgow to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills in line with industry standards.

Practical exercises are listed below.

* Lighting circuits to include 1 way, 2 way, and intermediate switching

* Radial power circuits ( sockets, showers, cookers, outside supplies etc.)

* Ring final circuits (sockets), ring circuit with `spurs`

* Earthing and Bonding procedures

* Health & Safety – Safe Isolation Procedure

* Applying Electrical Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)

* Selecting cable types, (PVC flat profile, flexible cable, SWA, etc.)

*  Selecting/calculating cable sizes and calculating load demands.

* Protective devices, types and ratings, (fuses, circuit-breakers, RCDs, SPDs, AFDDs).

* Special locations, bathroom/shower rooms, outside installations, etc.

* Identifying Three Phase Systems.

* Introduction to Inspection, Testing and Certification, (use of test equipment for de-energised and energised circuits) .

Attendance:      1 day a week for 12 weeks – 09.00 – 14.30

                        or 2 evenings a week for 12 weeks –  18.00 – 20.30
